01
Sleeping with your hair unit
Protecting your unit overnight makes a significant difference to how long it lasts. Friction during sleep is one of the most common causes of premature wear.
- Protect your hair with a bonnet, du rag, wave cap, bandana, or silk scarf before sleeping
- Use a silk pillowcase alongside your headwear — this allows your head to move freely without creating friction
02
Daily care
A simple daily routine keeps your unit looking fresh and well-maintained between appointments.
- Brush or comb the back and sides down every morning if necessary to keep the style in shape
- Use a dry shampoo or anti-itch spray to control any odours or itching between washes
- Use Carter Creative Hair Cream to moisturise and style your unit — keeping the hair healthy and manageable
- Carter Creative Reform Hair Fibres can be used to add density and blend if needed
03
Washing & water
Water is one of the main factors that reduces the lifespan of your adhesive bond. Being careful around water significantly extends the time between maintenance appointments.
- Try not to get your hair unit wet — use a shower cap when bathing
- Water reduces the time expectancy of your adhesive — the more it gets wet, the sooner you'll need a refit
- When it's time to clean your unit, use rubbing alcohol shampoo — we'll demonstrate the process at your first maintenance appointment
- Use Cantu Leave-in Conditioner to keep the hair moisturised after washing
04
Adhesive & unexpected lifting
Occasionally your unit may start to lift slightly between appointments. Here's how to manage it.
- Ghost Bond Classic Adhesive is great for re-securing edges or areas that have lifted
- Ghost Bond XL is a stronger formula for longer-lasting hold
- Use C22 Adhesive Remover when you need to safely lift the unit without damaging the base
- Walker Tape Scalp Protector and Max Hold Sport Scalp Protector help condition the scalp before adhesive application
- Extenda Bond Toupee Tape can be used for additional hold at the edges
05
Maintenance schedule
Regular maintenance is the single most important thing you can do to extend the life of your unit and keep it looking natural.
- Maintenance is recommended every 2 to 6 weeks to get the best life expectancy from your unit
- Lace base units typically need maintenance closer to every 2 weeks due to the nature of the bond
- PU skin base units can often go 3 to 4 weeks between appointments
- Your maintenance package includes a video call to walk you through the self-clean process at home
