Hair Unit Base Options
Lace Base - One of the most popular bases is the full lace base. This is when the toupee uses lace material throughout the base which is tied with human or synthetic hair.
They are particularly beneficial due to the hairline being virtually invisible thanks to the natural looking lace material. This essentially gives you the most natural looking look.
PROS:
Hair can be cut short
Other hair styles that expose the scalp are available and more disguisable.. like braids or dreads
Breathable
Recommended for clients that have an active lifestyle or sweat a lot
CONS:
Maintenance may be required after 2 weeks
Water and sweat can get through the lace
Not as easy to clean
Base can rip or tear
Threads can loosen over time
Adhesive can get stuck to hair through the base
PU BASE - There are currently 3 types of Skin bases, the super thin or ultra thin skin bases, are known to be the thinnest or lightest bases available on the market.
Ultra thin skin systems notably come with v-loop ventilation which makes them extremely natural looking. However, they are also delicate as a result, which along with delivering a natural look is why they usually carry less hair density, while poly (PU) systems in general are not very breathable.
PROS:
durable.. lasts a longer than the advertised time
Stays on longer.. possible 3 to 4 weeks
Barrier between hair and scalp
Easier to clean
CONS:
Not breathable
Can be sweaty or uncomfortable in hot climates
Base can be seen if hair is cut short
